Fairforest Elementary received its AdvancED STEM accreditation in March 2016. As a school, we strive to provide all students with engaging, meaningful learning experiences that emphasize science, technology, engineering, art, and math through integrated, student-centered instruction. Our students are constantly growing as investigators and problem-solvers, and our continuous focus on literacy in all subject areas has equipped them to ask thoughtful questions about our world and use their resources to seek answers and innovate solutions.
During the 2018-2019 school year, Fairforest Elementary made a significant transition from a STEM to a more comprehensive STEAM instructional program. This shift was a conscious decision, aligning with our ongoing goal of nurturing the knowledge, skills, and characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate in the most effective ways for our students. The transition involved a substantial investment in integrating the visual and performing arts program into our core instructional program, resulting in significant student growth in academics and social-emotional learning.
In 2023, Fairforest Elementary was honored to receive the prestigious Palmetto State Arts Education’s STEAM School of Excellence Award. This recognition is a testament to our sustained commitment to STEAM implementation, our collaborative efforts with teachers and staff across disciplines, and our thriving STEAM-focused partnerships within our community.
