About Us
Since opening its doors in 1950 and earning full accreditation in 1963, our small community school, once known as “The Hidden Gem,” is now the second-largest elementary school in Spartanburg County School District Six. As one of nine elementary schools in the district, we are now known for being extraordinary inside and out. In 2008, we opened the doors of our current facility. Although we are blessed to have a fantastic facility, what makes our school truly shine is how one feels when walking through our doors. We pride ourselves on celebrating the diversity of our community, with more than twenty different countries represented among our students. Most of our children come from low- to middle-income families with working parents who want the best for their children. The desires of our families mirror those of the community, where the school serves as a safe and welcoming environment focused on meeting the needs of all students.
As our school lies in one of the fastest-growing areas in Spartanburg County, we are fortunate to have a growing network of stakeholders who are genuinely invested in the school’s mission and the success of our students. Our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) works diligently to provide school-wide events throughout the school year for our families that foster a welcoming environment and encourage parental involvement. Our School Improvement Council (SIC) plays a vital role in the school’s continuous improvement efforts as it serves an advisory board comprised of parents, administrators, teachers, and community members. The SIC strives to identify, establish, and analyze school needs and goals, engage and educate parents, and ensure the school provides a conducive learning environment for all students. As a STEAM school having received National Accreditation in STEM since 2016, we also partner with local businesses outside of our building to provide our students with opportunities to interact and communicate with professional engineers, scientists, mathematicians, visual and performing artists, and project managers. Businesses such as Michelin North America, Chapman Cultural Center, Broad River Electric Cooperative, Inc., The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, and Bonnie Plants are all invested in providing our students with invaluable learning experiences that are engaging and relevant. Local churches are also invested in our school and support our community by providing students with weekend food bags, winter coats, and teacher incentives.
With a growing population of 825 students, our school embraces the changes and challenges that come with growth as we strive to meet the needs of our students. We are dedicated to collaborating closely with all stakeholders to ensure continuous improvement for all. The school’s motto, “Empowering Learners to SOAR,” is a call to action as we strive to empower ALL learners and leaders – students, staff, families, and the community – to SOAR in all aspects of life! This collaboration has led to immense growth in our students’ success and their expectations of themselves. Over the past five years, strategic changes have been made with the addition of two 4K classes, a state-of-the-art sensory room, academic interventionists, a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) program, an occupational and physical therapy room, and social-emotional services and support for children and their families as we continue to evolve to serve the whole child.
